Vizag Transmission Award Advances India's Green Hydrogen Hub Infrastructure
A Government of India transmission award for proposed Vizag green hydrogen and green ammonia projects makes power-network readiness a visible project gate, but does not yet prove FID or certification readiness.
What happened
On 24 July 2026, Adani Energy Solutions announced a roughly Rs 8,500 crore inter-state transmission award for the proposed green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Vizag area of Andhra Pradesh. The project was awarded through the Government of India's tariff-based competitive-bidding framework. The announced scope includes 1,582 circuit kilometres of transmission lines and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity, with an estimated 4,500 MW of demand to be served and a 30-month delivery period.
Why it matters
This is an infrastructure signal, not a production or certification milestone. India’s hydrogen hubs need more than electrolyser capacity: they need a dependable connection plan, enough transformation capacity and evidence that the electricity pathway can be reconciled with the product claim. A large transmission award makes the Vizag cluster more concrete, but it does not by itself establish that the proposed projects have reached FID, secured offtake or satisfied GHCI or RFNBO rules.
For producers and buyers, the diligence question is whether the network dependency is tied to a defined project schedule and a documented power-accounting model. The connection point, renewable supply arrangement, metering boundary, grid losses, temporal records and responsibility for evidence should be settled before the infrastructure is treated as certification-ready.

- transmission award and planned delivery;
- connection and energisation evidence;
- renewable-power sourcing and metering records;
- GHCI or RFNBO compliance evidence; and

This separation prevents a grid-infrastructure award from being presented as evidence that the associated hydrogen is green, certified or exportable. It also gives developers a practical checklist for closing the gap between a hub announcement and an auditable production claim.
Risks and caveats
